作品賞析
Artist Huang Wei-Min combines natural and artificial elements with everyday foods, presenting them on placemat-sized canvases, making each creation resemble a delicious dish. While the triangle is considered a stable shape in geometry, it’s often used as a warning sign in everyday life. One is safe, the other is dangerous; Huang Wei-Min uses this conflicting character of the shape as the subject, thus transforming the mountains of her hometown, Puli, in Nantou, center Taiwan, into triangular shapes. She uses a large expanse of ochre as background, and uses light and dark tones to create visual depth. The green filling of the “triangular pancake” has a grassy texture, while the off-white crust resembles a concrete wall, evoking both the retaining walls of a mountain and the human development of mountainous areas. The artist skillfully employs different imagery to create a sense of dissonance within the painting, exploring the relationship between human development and the natural environment.
