Artist Chen Chao-Tung’s works explore the relationship between objects, space, and viewers. In his work On the wall, he uses two different metal media to explore the dialogue between frame lines and entities in space. He broke down the cube shape into two parts: the “frame” and the “internal entity.” The lighter-colored stainless steel represents the frame lines, while the body is made up of six dark-colored iron plates joined together, with the gaps left intentionally open where the frames were removed. Chen created a corresponding relationship through the relative display positions of the two parts of the work. The stainless steel frame is placed on a lower pedestal, while the iron sheet structure is mounted high on the wall. The part of the frame facing the solid body has outward-angled edges. The shape of the angle creates a virtual-real correspondence between the frame and the cube, while the two metal materials of different colors and textures, as well as their complementary shapes, also form an open dialogue relationship in the space.
