作品賞析
Through precise calculations, the artist Chen Chao-Tung carves not only the material (stainless steel) but also the clear shadows it casts on the wall. In Fold #01, the stainless steel ball seems to be squeezed and deformed by the wall and iron bars. It opens up the space between the iron frame and its own shadow. This becomes the first layer of “pseudo-space.” Moreover, the lines formed by the iron frame and its shadow looks like an opened folding page, the content of which is filled in by the viewer’s interpretation of the work. The stainless steel ball has a mirror-like surface that condenses the reflected images of the external environment, including the viewer, onto its surface. This is the second level of “pseudo-space.” Chen Chao-Tung believes that time is an irreversible line connecting past, present, and future, while the sphere symbolizes “stagnant time.” The eternity represented by the sculpture and the fleeting images on the mirror surface present an interesting contrast.
