Artist Niu Chun-Chiang’s creations start from exploring himself and the invisible, intangible experiences that exist in life. This work is inspired by a postcard with a Spanish church fresco, in which a right hand is stretched out from a blank circle with three outer rings of different colors, symbolizing the sacred, heaven and earth, and love. The hand reaching out from the void was a manifestation of the mysterious unknown, and it also conveyed a sense of guidance, giving, protection, and blessing. Niu Chun-Chiang extended the composition of the painting into a hemispherical three-dimensional sculpture. The triangular structure on the hemisphere is the hand in the painting, and the three outer circles of different colors have become a staircase, thus forming a work that looks like a sculptural object or building in space. Niu reinterprets the painting through sculpture, transforming the representative symbols of faith into a display of inner sheltering space, which is quiet, stable, and weighty.
