Perfectly Strange #19, Silent Bloom

Artist Lin Kun-Ying’s video installation work Perfectly Strange, #19, Silent Bloom combines painting and projection to create a feeling of tranquility and gentleness. Against a background composed of blocks of dark gray, aqua, and blue, the stems of the purple flowers seem to extend upward in a curve from the window corner to the wall. As projected light casts the image of petals and the forms of shadows, and the petals sway in the wind, the light and shadow on the petals continuously change, and day gradually turns to night. Lin Kun-Ying believes that sunlight brings energy to life, but some of the light cannot be seen. This invisible light in his works is expressed through shadows, which also bring out the quiet and stable existence of flowers as time changes. For him, the flowers he plants at home will assume their own growth posture depending on the environment and sunlight, and in time their lives will grow with the artist as time goes by.
