作品賞析
When artist Huang Ting-Yu was conceiving this work, she first widened the scene to about twice its original size, and then painted the work on six small wooden screens. Because the screens are folded, even after the picture is returned to its original proportions, it still feels somewhat ambiguous. The common Japanese onomatopoetic word for the sound of wind is written over a scene of a road to nowhere that passes through woods. Traffic marks on the road point to opposite directions. A gentle, calm palette conceals abrupt elements, so there is an indescribable sense of strangeness. Three children stand on the road, tied together by a yellow ribbon, representing innocence, eccentricity, and introversion. The dialog box above their heads, written in English, reads, “Even though you always trip me up, I still love you,” thus revealing their personalities at a moment of conflict and reconciliation. The image seems like a moment being replayed in one’s memory, a tiny, weird yet memorable fragment, awaiting the viewer to create a different ending for the story.
