Artist Huang Ting-Yu believes that screens, which are slender and beautiful and can divide space, show the culture of etiquette in interpersonal relationships in Eastern society. She developed a series of works based on this, in which she expresses emotions such as longing, nostalgia, and sense of mission. Huang Ting-Yu designed the work’s surface so that it has folds like an accordion or folding screen, with triangular waves, so that it can become two independent images when viewed from the left or right, but they merge into a third image when viewed from the front. The emotion conveyed in The Name of Light is “longing.” The artist believes that this emotion is the starting point for a person to find his or her own identity. She used mineral pigments, gold foil, and so on to present a gorgeous abstract rain of fire on the painting. She uses “light” to describe the fervor of worship, the power of faith, and the ideals and selves we project into it.
