Artist Huang Shun-Ting’s “(blank)” series questions this phenomenon. This work shows a money tree on a linen cloth background. The edges of the leaves have traces of incomplete background removal. At first glance, it looks like a digital image that has been cut and post-processed. In fact, it is a painting by the artist using acrylic paint. He deliberately imitates the texture of the output image to reproduce the contemporary visual experience. Although there are hollowed-out spaces in the composition, we can easily infer that the blank spaces were once filled with congratulatory words written on cards, because we are all constrained by collective values.
