Bowknots and lilies are commonly used when presenting gifts, but here, artist Huang Shun-Ting turns the canvas into a container for flowers, and ribbons seem to be tied around it. In this series, the artist wanted to bring Flowers in Full Bloom by skillful painting and rich colors. He brushed the acrylic paint thinly, so that the underlying texture of the hemp canvas is still clearly visible. This creates a grainy visual effect, similar to what happens when people nowadays use the zoom command while viewing pictures on a computer. However, the staggered arrangement of the bowknots reveal that the image is still, in fact, a deception, and the white “ghost” bowknot images resemble what happens in computer graphics when a layer disappears. The lifelike flowers, meanwhile, are only flat graphic images.
