Artist Lee Yi- Ya often cuts out images of ideal furniture from various interior design magazines and later reconstruct them into his paintings. In his work Window, the blue sofa bed becomes the focus. The foreground is a corner with warm lights and plants. A bright moon outside the window illuminates the night sky. The bright colors and casual brushwork lines make the picture full of lively vibrancy. Since his family ran a furniture factory, in Lee’s memory his father was always drawing furniture design drafts, and traces of white correction fluid could be seen everywhere in the house. Lee Yi- Ya is accustomed to using red ball-point pens to make his drafts, and he uses white crayon instead of correction fluid to modify his drafts. Looking closely at this work, you will also be able to see many traces of the draft, deliberately preserved. These lumpy and interesting strokes bear the shadow of his father, so Lee Yi- Ya has inherited his father’s mantle, but in another form.
