作品賞析
Artist Lee Yi-Ya likes to paint with oil pastel. He believes that the warmth of his fingers is absorbed by the medium during the rubbing process on paper. Before painting, he cuts photographs of private homes from magazines or on-line rental advertisements, and then he pieces them together to make an entirely fictive interior space. This serves as a reference before he starts to create. In this picture, we see a crib being used to store miscellaneous things, and shopping bags and clothes are piled on a colorful rug. The crib, which is placed at a diagonal, breaks the sense of stability in the picture, so that the various items become things that may be disposed of at any time. The colorful background and the textures on the floor have their own special charm. For Lee, all works are “unfinished.” In the white area in the lower right corner of the painting, there are grid lines, which he had used in drafting or enlarging the scale, so the work gives the feeling of an “unfinished sketch,” waiting for the viewers to complete it together.
