After the artist You Shen-Yu was invited to exhibit in Kenting, he began to conduct fieldwork in Kenting and created this work, Cruise. Starting from the topography and seascape, he transformed an image of clouds and mist into a rough ocean. The ship riding the wind and waves seems to be heading toward the top of the mountain, while just over the summit of the tallest mountain, a dialogue box filled with a cloud hovers. Through its combination of dream and reality, it becomes both magical and realistic. Clouds and mist are important symbols in You Shen-Yu’s artworks. As he grew up, he realized that while many things were disappearing over time, the clouds and mist in the sky were always following and accompanying him. The ship bravely struggling forward in the painting is a metaphor for the state in which people are constantly searching for certain meaning and certain goals in life.
