The artist Chen Yu-Kai's acrylic painting, Beast, features various kinds of animal imagery. His approach to painting is to first create natural flow and transformational effects with the paint, watch what happens, and then use his sensibility and imagination to develop the content. Most of the themes are based on adventure stories and make-believe things. This work makes flexible use of abstract blobs of color to form a mountain that also looks a little like a gorilla. Surrounded by various flora and fauna and brush strokes of various colors, the main figure is filled with vitality. In many places, there are twisting, turning brushstrokes that bring out the flow and change of colors and produce a sense of rhythm among the various colorful blobs. In this composition, where reality and fantasy are interwoven, no creature can be identified for certain, so it leaves unlimited space for the imagination.
