Blue Dog is an acrylic painting by Artist Chen Yu-Kai. He associates the color blue with coldness, and as he started to paint this, he thought about his dachshund at home, so he thought about making a blue dog the subject. When Chen Yu-Kai approaches painting, he does not begin with a preset subject. Instead, he freely makes brush strokes and blobs of color on the canvas, and then constructs the content through the painting process. Sometimes he revises it many times until he is satisfied with the outcome. His works usually center on adventures stories or unrealistic subjects, and they leave a lot of room for imagination. In this work, as he pondered the dog’s situation, Chen Yu-Kai put a fire next to the dog, as well as a shooting star (burning at high temperature) in the distance behind it. However, the warmth does not seem to reach the dog, so he remains blue and quietly waits for the real warmth of the sun to arrive tomorrow.
