For the artist Chang Hua, “frame” represents the external outline of things, and “reflections” represent the inner spirit. The connections between the two are the focus of his creative work. While studying in the United Kingdom, the impact of traveling abroad and cultural difference profoundly changed him. From then on, he began to paint on the canvas while mentally seeking a return to a primordial state and breaking the inherent limitations of images, so that the compositions would present a natural sense of movement and speed. He aims to explore the flow of emotions more than the integrity of composition. Therefore, in Frame and Reflections, he connects the statues of the gentleman and the horse to London street scenes recalled in memory, and retains a large amount of sketching, frames, and line segments. These guide viewers to break away from their original cognitive frameworks and to use their own experiences or memories to re-understand what is before them.
