作品賞析
CHANG Hua’s Black Wall I is a manifestation of a segment of spatial memory presented in the form of lithic crystals. He believes that images in human memories are like lithic crystals that accumulate over time and compress each other to crystallize, making them results of repeated embedding processes. The composition is an experimental use of cover staining technique to create layers upon layers of heavy and pitch black color blocks to emulate the crystalline forms of rock formation while corresponding to the assembled memories of space and experiences. The result is a heavy, massive wall that resemble the darknest nights. White brush strokes at the bottom appear like mountains and urban islands that sparkle in darkness, forming a vague and fractured landscape tucked into the corner. This work effectively built a connection between the crystallization process and the artist’s personal emotions intermingled with memories, history, and time.
