作品賞析
“Red tide” is a phenomenon in which the ocean changes color due to a prolific growth of algae, and it is a kind of marine disaster. The artist is here using it as a metaphor for what happens in crowds, almost at a subconscious level, when something diverts their attention, and all respond as one, as if in a tide. This work depicts a crowd of people in Xinyi District. Each person has his or her own position and role, so there may be disputes and conflicts between individuals. However, once they receive the same stimulus, they can always look at the same place in an instant. Even before their consciousness is awakened, their bodies have already responded reflexively, meaning that in an urban setting, their somatic sense is that of a group. In the distance, a fall of glinting golden dust from the sky is a symbol of what the people have been yearning for so long. In this environment of constant drastic change, people instinctively have a single aim of trying to find or develop shared beliefs.
