作品賞析
Tainan Alley has a rich Southeast Asian atmosphere. The artist, Chung Yi-Hua, has said that painting is not about what the eyes see, but what the heart sees. He transforms his full sensory experience into the colorful dots of his work. When painting, Chung first applies a light background color, and then draws outlines with masking tape. When he tears off the tape, the background color will appear—this is the color seen between the color dots and other gaps, so that the picture is unified by the harmonious tone. A Southeast Asian impression is presented through the selection and integration of colors. The shapes of the clouds were taken from images of Buddhist pagodas in Burmese temples, while the high chromatic combination of orange-red and purple on the roof tiles of the old Tainan houses came from the colors of a Southeast Asian batik gauze sarong. Chung’s work is not about showing the real world—he is depicting a world he sees through a filter that “superimposes the colors of my hometown in Myanmar on the outline of my hometown of Tainan.”
