作品賞析
A rock with a distinctive texture approaches our field of view, as if we are zooming in on it with a camera lens. The artist, Liang Chen-Ming, depicts it in finely layered detail, and every cavity and line reflects the scars from thousands of years of natural weathering. He seems to paint the rock’s portrait, as if almost ritually focused on recording every feature on its surface. By contrast, the distant mountains are covered in cloud and tinged with a sense of ethereality and mystery. Liang is obsessed with the mountain scenery in various places in Taiwan, and even the smaller rocks may be imbued with the depth and temper of a majestic mountain. Liang studies various kinds of paper, inks and pigments, and is one of the few artists in Taiwan who explores artistic creation from the perspective of material science and physics. His Rock World No. 16 uses highly decorative golden kinsenshi yellow-edged paper. He reduces the decorative effect by layering pigments over it, successfully goes beyond the traditional Chinese conception of landscape, and lets modern viewers like us, who have ample Western-style viewing experience, come to a new realization of the value of ink painting today.
