LIANG Chen-Ming often illustrates coastal rock formations in his ink paintings, using observations of the environment to reflect upon the modern interpretation of ink paintings. “Words from Rocks” integrates eastern and western water painting elements and uses a technical and realistic style that offer a detailed portrayal of coastal rock outcroppings, broken rocks, and geographical textures of Longdong in the northeastern corner of Taiwan. The ink painting represents a powerful delivery of local features and is created with the support of aerial drones during observational studies of the subject matter. The painting thus combines traditional landscape painting compositions and the perspective of camera lenses to highlight the majestic geologies of Taiwan’s coastlines.
