作品賞析
In any fast-developing city, new commercial and office buildings as well as high-end residential buildings are constantly rising from the ground, older buildings are demolished, and construction sites can be seen everywhere. This is the kind of scene we are accustomed to. For the artist Tu Chih-Wei, construction sites are like strange gaps before the next change of economic development. They run through the city center and along boundaries, forming common, special transition zones. She carefully observes construction site scenes around her, mentally deconstructing their various elements, and then uses traditional ink and Eastern gouache as media to draw modern landscapes, at once real and illusory, with elegant hues and gentle brushstrokes. Tu’s Symbiosis was inspired by the soil mass of a transplanted tree. In any construction site, one can often see various plants transplanted from elsewhere; they become static, cultivated, and symbiotic in this temporary space. Their situation of not being able to set down roots in one place hints at the condition of modern humans, always drifting and scattering.
