PENG I-I uses clay and metal as material and endows utility in his works, he thinks works can only interact with life more intimately when they are actually being used. Nose is a sculpture made of clay in a nose shape and supported by three wheeled legs; it provides the platform to serve as the table. The surface appears plain and staid due to its dark brown texture; metal branches and leaves meandering from the underside and the tip of the nose showing the power of life. PENG I-I sees our lives surrounded by various objects, and the texture and its usage unconsciously effect the user’s sensation. And he argues about the lack of variety in material due to the mass production of plastic and fake materials; through this piece he expresses his concern about traditional materials and techniques.
