The Floating Substance and View by LAI Yue-Hong is about an experience with students requiring care during military service, in which he uses metaphor to turn events and students’ qualities into some kind of creature or object, such as the fish and swim ring in the huge swimming pool. The glimmers in the pool relate to hope instinctively, but to those children, they are more like desire. Though is piece this based on a real social phenomenon, the magnificent space and wandering astronaut make the viewer think beyond the cynical judgement and read the beauty in it; media and viewers nowadays all need facts sugar coated, even though the facts might remain unseen.
