LAI Yue-Hong’s work Under World is a still study combined with a landscape art to create an intervening setting to explore the mutual relationships between people and the natural world. The two breathtaking vistas include the images of food. The snow on the mountain happens to be a combination of a sunny-side up egg and snow, and closer observations of the pristine lake reveal it to be an icy cold beverage flavored with lemons. These portrayals of food in an advertisement provide an enticing fantasy of comfort. By naturally combining images of media broadcasts with the unpredictable nature, LAI Yue-Hong has successfully created a bizarre and surreal imaginary world to investigate the balance between human intervention and natural forces.
