HSU Wen-Te depicts detailed scenes by using ink and wash to fuse western painting techniques. Reed Moon gained its inspiration from Bai Juyi's "Pipa Xing (Ode to a Lady's Pipa Play)", wind and flowers in the waterside scenery portray the season of autumn and winter. with red gold cicada rice paper as the base, the body of the reed is drawn with delicate double lines, and the ink is painted from the back to dye different shades. The color of the red paper matches with the golden reed, giving the feeling of moonlight. HSU Wen-Te makes use of cicada paper’s features, fusing the primary and secondary scenes skillfully, rendered layer by layer to create the depth and contrast, to produce this strong but delicate visual.
