HUANG Hsiao-Yen expresses her philosophy of life in a poetic painting language. In the work, Baby Blue Winter Day, the looming texture of the brushstrokes lays the main tone of the gray-blue image with a variety of irregular, changing lines and color blocks randomly distributed in it. Some appear to be recognizable symbols, such as the crystallization of snowflakes, clumps of dark clouds, and rain. However, they may only be colors and lines that are purely abstract and do not need clear meaning of identification, much like the inner thought in one’s mind that is fleeting and inextricable. HUANG Hsiao-Yen hopes to create a deeper, more intertwined spirit of the “wilderness" to convey the contrast between gorgeousness and desolation. It is quiet, elegant and gentle here, but at the same time, it also implies a sullen, rude, hard and stubborn side.
