Rahic Talif’s works are closely related to the sea. He collected driftwood, plastic pieces, glass, and other discarded items along the east coast and transformed them into elements in his work. Memories of the Ocean – Rocky Wall is a composition of irregularly shaped and brilliantly colored geometric blocks, creating a work that represents the rocky walls of the east coast. These colored pieces are actually made of floating plastic waste picked up from the coasts. These discarded items of little value are reprocessed and transformed into a presented element of the artwork. Ralic Talif uses his creations to reminisce about ancestors having been lost at sea and reflect his concern for the environment and marine culture we live in.
