Rahic Talif’s works are closely related to the sea. He collected driftwood, plastic pieces, glass, and other discarded items along the east coast and transformed them into elements in his work. Memories of the Ocean – Wind is a montage of brilliant colored pieces that resemble curled leaves, spinning and rotating in a lively rhythm across the canvas. The meandering lines can be likened to flowing water or visible wind. These colored pieces are actually made of floating plastic waste picked up from the coasts. These discarded items of little value are reprocessed and transformed into a presented element of the artwork. Ralic Talif uses his creations to reminisce about ancestors having been lost at sea and reflect his concern for the environment and marine culture we live in.
