LU Yu-Rui is a native of Kaohsiung and uses the camera to document stories of fishermen, the fishing industry, and the sea based around the Kaohsiung Fishing Port. A Slow and Solemn Procession shows a large ship slowly leaving the harbor for an unknown journey out in the open sea. Few turned up to bid them farewell, save for a man and woman standing by the pier, silently gazing at the departing vessel. The solemn, black-and-white composition provides a dream-like surreal world as though time itself had stopped. LU Yu-Rui uses photography to narrate little-known facets of the lives of long-range fishing crew and to convey a tale of nostalgia and love for his native home.
