LU Yu-Rui is a native of Kaohsiung and uses the camera to document stories of fishermen, the fishing industry, and the sea based around the Kaohsiung Fishing Port. Seaman, Albatrosses, Southwest Atlantic is a photograph made possible when LU YU-Rui joined a crew of long-range fishing ships venturing into fishing grounds in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean near the Falkland Islands. A flock of albatrosses cover the entire composition set against the endless oceans. A fisher is seen standing by the side of the boat, already accustomed to such breathtaking sights. To the long-range fishing crew, the albatross is a companion of their long journeys and represent a marine landscape that differs from their terrestrial life. This photograph also narrates the hard labor and nostalgic loneliness of fishers that few are aware of.
