LU Yu-Rui is a native of Kaohsiung and uses the camera to document stories of fishermen, the fishing industry, and the sea based around the Kaohsiung Fishing Port. Albatross is a photograph made possible when LU YU-Rui joined a crew of long-range fishing ships venturing into fishing grounds in the Southwest Atlantic Ocean near the Falkland Islands. A flock of albatrosses fly across the endless oceans, taking only momentary rests on the ocean surface or diving to hunt for prey. Some have already expanded their wings to continue the journey towards their destination. To the long-range fishing crew, the albatross is a companion of their long journeys and represents a marine landscape that differs from their terrestrial life. This photograph also narrates the hard labor and nostalgic loneliness of fishers that few are aware of.
