SU Yu-Ting’s Wetlands on Hand is based on the natural and human landscapes of the Guandu Plains. The three-piece composition depicts, from left to right: mangroves growing by the river, the old canal gates, and a typical household of Guandu in earlier days. The contours of Guanyin Mountain are represented by a silhouette of undulating slopes in the background. An outstretched hand extending across all three pieces of the composition symbolizes a stable platform carrying the natural, historical, and cultural elements of Guandu. SU Yu-Ting uses elegant color tones to create a dream-like atmosphere, with the dissected yet continuous composition serving as a metaphor of memory. The artist attempts to preserve these precious memories for eternity while remaining nostalgic for things that are already lost.
