LEE Pei-Shan creates paintings that depict fantasy worlds inspired by the process of urban development in Taiwan in an attempt to raise awareness for the environment and residential environment that we live in. “Sunset Hotel” is a world where night and day coexist with each other and people live only for 1 day. The planet has a slow rotation and makes 1 revolution every 100 years, a period that occupies an entire lifetime. The residents of the planet can see only 1 sunset in their lives. At Sunset Hotel, people either welcome the eternal night or bid farewell to the seemingly never-ending day. The hotel offers a rich banquet, luxurious chandeliers, exquisite sculptures, and exotic birds, offering a utopia-like world where life is a mere fleeting sparkle.
