My Samaritaine

CHIANG Kai-Chun’s creations are intimately related to mosaic art. He is also a photographer and director that spent many years exploring the themes of digital pixels and traditional mosaic. He was invited to the first department store of Paris La Samaritaine for video recording and creation, leading to the work “My Samartaine”. Digital output was used to print the video on wood panels. Engraved mosaic and digital printing was then used to recreate the classical installation and noveau artwork in the department store so as to portray the progress of the renovations. By using mosaic, comparative digital artwork, and manual crafting, the artist has provided a simultaneous display of the past and present of Paris.
