HUANG Shih-Tuan was born during the Kinmen August 23 artillery battle, leading him to adopt the memories and emotional ties to his hometown as his creative theme. Memories of August 23 uses abstract lines and curves to present a smoke-filled battlefield, using outlines of straight and sharp lines to recreate the powerful recoil of artillery batteries. The frames are based on memories of the red roofs of traditional houses in Kinmen and images of buildings destroyed by cannon shells. HUANG Shih-Tuan uses both shape and color as well as modern and eastern elements to create a colorful composition in an attempt to investigate the erosive effects of time.
