CHUANG Tsung-Hsun’s Schema of Modern Life – Swimming Pool is a reflective work based on the theme of recreational activities invented by human civilization. The monotonous pastel orange background provides no other lifestyle amenities except for a constructed swimming pool where a few people are having fun as well as a few poolside loungers. The development of human civilization provided people with free-time to pursue leisure activities. However, the excesses of capitalism even began to standardize recreational activities as well. CHUANG Tsung-Hsun deliberately used a simple and minimalist composition to create guidelines about modern life that reads like an instruction manual, reflecting upon the emptiness of spiritual life as human civilization continues to advance.
