CHIANG Chi-Ming’s wooden sculpture Bearing Surface is part of the series based upon observations of young girls. The work is an observation of the subconscious body language and reactions of young girls as they face contradictions in everyday life. This young girl has cute pony tails and a beautiful short skirt, exuding an aura of youthful beauty. However, her body language is awkward and stiff, wearing an indifferent expression. CHIANG Chi-Ming uses a realistic and detailed portrayal of young girls to reflect upon the various aspects of modern life. The work illustrates an innocent generation that carries hope and expectations for the future, experiencing a life with beauty and conflicts, and budding with love yet filled with depressing emotions.
