Eat What You Saw II

HSIEN Chen-Yuan’s Eat What You Saw II portrays 24 circular frames of equal sizes. Eastern cultures often use circular plates to hold food and people always look forward to the surprise placed within a steaming basket, especially given the fact that Taiwan is famous for its snacks and cuisine. HSIEH Chen-Yuan thus filled the circular frames with brilliant colors of various shades. Although actual food items were not portrayed, the steam baskets display colors that induce imaginations of different flavors. Visual colors and shapes were used by the artist in an attempt to evoke ideas and memories about our sense of smell and taste that can then be freely interpreted by observers.
