YU Shih-Fu uses moving mechanical contraptions to display personal fantasies about reality. Flying Trial is constructed using minimalist mechanical structures to create a device with insect-like wings. When connected to power, the wings are able to move up and down slowly like an authentic and intact organism. Gaining the power of flight by growing a pair of wings may seem like a romantic and unrealistic fantasy in terms of modern science, but this artwork isn’t trying to emulate high-tech developments, explores instead the possibility of mechanical aeronautics. YU Shih-Fu uses fundamental technology and figments of imagination to bestorw cultural humanism and warmth to cold machinery, reinterpret imagination about flight, and respond to the relationship between technology and the humans.
