Artist YU Shih-Fu skillfully transforms cold machinery into a mechanical language filled with human warmth. Engine Pulse is made of engine parts left over from a motorcycle breakdown during a trip around Taiwan. For this piece, he ran the engine and recorded the mechanical sounds produced by the transmission, clutch and starter, which he plays back as a loop when exhibiting the piece. The artist hopes that the subtle sounds produced by the engine and other parts will lead the viewer to experience the sensations of his round-Taiwan motorcycle trip and give the old engine a brand new purpose.
