YANG Ting-Chien’s panel art is a subsumed investigation of the relationships between man-made objects and natural settings. Character of Woods is assembled using 2 wooden planks. One portrays carvings and illustrations of various wooden utensils stacked on top of each other with no visible center of force, generating an odd relationship between the various objects that seem teetering along the edge of collapse. When weightless, wood seems to lack its original sense of existence. The other panel seems to portray a shadow-like entity of wood where physical elements were stripped away, seemingly hinting at the mundane existence of wood. YANG Ting-Chien uses common elements portrayed in a surreal format to entice us to think about various scenarios.
