HO Yao-Chih’s Reading Time-17 is a digital image portraying the traces marking the passage of time. The work features a still street pavement in daytime with two pedestrians walking past each other, just as we normally expect. However, this ordinary-looking image is composed of numerous straight, vertical lines that are created using overlapping strips of newspaper. The newspaper is deprived of its textual messages and overlapped to form a image that conveys the cumulative trails of memory and time like an international image montage. HO Yao-Chih uses newspaper imageries and the memories and moments they carry to record the residual trails of passing time and the aesthetics of various objects.
