YANG Ya-Chi’s ink paintings often feature plants, using them as a subject to project emotions and reflections about life, the environment, and current events. Late to Fall features drought resistant crops often seen in central Taiwan. These verdant plants are blessed with thick leaves and long, slender branches. The leaves and twigs are filled with life, and thrive in the drought and heat. However, the aim of the artist is to convey her concerns regarding recent phenomenon of climate changes. The seemingly lively plants are metaphorical harbingers of climatic calamities characterized by the ever-shorter fall seasons. Through this painting, YANG Ya-Chi expressed her heartfelt melancholy and longing for autumn.
