作品賞析
YANG Ya-Chi’s ink paintings often feature plants, using them as a subject to project emotions and reflections about life, the environment, and current events. The Weeds Left from Summer employs the vocabulary of classical ink paintings and calligraphy to portray four different kinds of wild grass. Despite lacking exterior beauty, these grasses portray a character differing from the educated gentry traditionally symbolized by pines, bamboos, and plums. Nevertheless, the ordinary looking appearances convey special and outstanding features. YANG Ya-Chi uses classical vocabulary in respond to modern life. The wild grasses stand as a metaphor of public opinions that manage to survive despite neglect during the tumultuous times. Although the grasses appear frail under the harsh sun, they were more than capable of thriving at corners with vigor and strength.
