LIN Yu-Nung is a dedicated admirer of ink painting styles of the Northern Song dynasty and his work provide a personal interpretation of the world. When portrayed against massive mountains, people are like grains of sand. When viewed from afar from a more macroscopic perspective, any planet is only a small piece of rock floating in the Universe. LIN Yu-Nung’s works often feature rocks as a result. Sinking Rock portrays a complex and oddly shaped rock against a grayish-black backdrop that reminds us of Taiwan, the island we live upon. This rock may be a small meteorite floating in space or a giant planet of immense size. Each of these rocks represent a whole world of its own. Using these ink paintings, LIN Yu-Nung encourages viewers to contemplate the relationship between a person and the world.
