LAI Yu-Cheng uses art to project images that reflect the absurdity of modernity, the vicious cycle brought about by the depletion of ecological resources, and the chain of environmental events that happen afterwards. The resulting artworks compel viewers to reflect upon environmental destruction behind the well-packaged beauty of modern lifestyles. Taoliving-Light Stone No. 3 shows a desolate, earthen yellow plain with a blackened river. The abstract mountain is clad in a range of bluish-purple colors, while a lonely leopard, its spots fading away into a strange mixture of blue pink, look on at this absurd landscape. The launch of the space rocket further symbolizes human blindness to the desolated natural ecology as they continued their extreme pursuit of technological advancement.
