TSAI Yuan-Huan’s works often depict an ever-changing style, and his paintings convey transforming feelings and emotions to portray the essential and truest form of himself. Something Other than Pagans is a cubist and expressionist work that dissect objects into different perspectives and angles. Messy lines and intentional strokes create an untamed and chaotic visual atmosphere. The three elements of eyes, birds, and ducks are cut apart and overlapped to create a gaze begging for external validation as well as a duck that wish to be a bird but remained a duck. This work represents the contradictory mental state of people who play multiple roles and characters in order to meet or pursue the standards and expectations demanded by others.
