CHEN Pei-Hsin’s artistic inspirations are based upon maelstroms seen in her dreams. Those admiring her works cannot help but feel as though their thoughts and emotions are being dragged into the work. Piecemeal Time is a continuation of the 72 Dreams series. Monotonous repetitions of patterns intertwine with complex emotions that stem from the mind. The composition includes bundles of living tentacles, each of which represented workers who busy themselves from 9 to 5 on jobs that seem to have no end. Each of these lines are created by a fractured, short-lived segment of the artist’s life, bundling together and spiraling towards the center to arrive at the final period, symbolizing the end that is waiting to happen.
