YANG Siang-Jen started off as a print artist and is now focusing upon sketching techniques, with works that present his unique and meticulous observations of seemingly insignificant and tiny particles of the surroundings. When living in the United States, YANG Siang-Jen often saw abandoned objects by the road side covered by snow or fallen leaves and overlooked by the people around them. Thus, he began contemplating the relationship between the nature of materials and the surrounding environment, focusing upon tiny matter and elements in everyday surroundings regardless of how mundane they may be. Results of these observations are cleverly transformed and recorded on art canvases using simple materials. Trace 06 is a work in one of the series created by YANG Siang-Jen. Memo paper, staplers, and small disposable units were converted into an abstract expression. Discernible forms and hints are stripped away to give subtle traces of its existence and generate unique shapes and forms to evoke deep contemplation.
