LIN Eleen’s works focus upon the transforming and chaotic scenes of modern culture. LIN Eleen attempts to use illustrations to record her experiences adrift in different cultures and traditions. In Hometown Buffet, LIN Eleen illustrates a hybrid Chinese and Western buffet restaurant. Chinese cultural elements include the name of the store, bamboo placed next to the window, and red lanterns. However, the wallpaper of the internal décor, the bread basket on the table, and western buffet trays betray the western roots of the establishment, creating an area where Chinese and Western elements co-exist. At the corner of the picture sits an unknown person in a curled position, forming a chaotic and alien sensation with the dilapidated environment surrounding him. In this work, LIN Eleen attempts to portray the differences between cultures and the disappearance of cultural boundaries in our world.
